The Moditlo Wildlife Estate

Moditlo Wildlife Estate is a 3,300ha Wildlife Estate within the boundary of the larger 12,000 ha (approx.) Blue Canyon Private Game Reserve. The reserve is located 14km south of Hoedspruit and can be accessed via one of three gates at Leopards Bend, the Blue Canyon Private Game Reserves main gate along with our impressive main gate further down the R40 and the contractors gate between the other two. The Blue Canyon Private Game Reserve is home to most of South Africa's most famous and rarest game, with more than 40 mammals and 400 bird species on the conservancy. As there are no fences between Moditlo Wildlife Estate and the Blue Canyon game is allowed to wander freely across the border allowing the privilege of resident seeing and experiencing the wild nature and behaviour of the big four. There are plans to release Buffalo which will result in residents living amongst “The Big Five”. Many other species roam across the whole of the Blue Canyon Conservancy and are frequently spotted.

Wild Dogs, Spotted Hyenas and Brown Hyena, Caracals, Civet, Cheetahs, Rhinos and Hippos and due to the excellent veld conditions, it also has a wide variety of plains game such as Waterbuck, Wildebeest, Zebra, Giraffe, Kudu, Nyala, Duiker, Steenbok, Bushpig, and dozens of other species and many species of birds including breading Southern Ground Hornbill.

Moditlo Wildlife Estate is an exclusive low-density development, offering only 470 stands in total, for private residential use, all measuring approx. 1ha. and are all freehold. All stands come fully serviced, with water from our many boreholes from within Moditlo Wildlife Estate or from, via contracts with the Blue Canyon with further development towards an additional pipeline from the other side of the R40. Electricity is from Eskom, many residents also install solar back-up or full of grid electricity solutions, but there are plans for our own backup generator to supply all stands with electricity when supply is broken.

Moditlo Wildlife Estate is one of the most prestigious and best managed game estates in the Hoedspruit area and is operated by a board supporting a management and operations team within the estate.

Moditlo Wildlife Estate is also home to several of Hoedspruit's top-rated lodges: Moditlo River Lodge & Vuyani Safari Lodges who in turn help fund many of the services that residing on an estate such as Moditlo can enjoy. The Blue Canyon Conservancy manage all the game and look after the well being of their animals within the fenced conservancy and as a resident you can enjoy these animals on your doorstep as a privilege. Moditlo Wildlife Estate has been in existence since 2002, when Johan Roode approached the Scheepers family to develop the Moria and Hoedspruit farms and the Riversdale farm into one entity.

History

Johan Roode will always be remembered as the original founder of Moditlo Wildlife Estate, together with the Scheepers family. Moditlo Wildlife Estate's infrastructure was built and developed throughout the mid-2000s, and the stands had been sold by the developer by 2008. All the stands were sold, and they can only be purchased in the secondary market.
As Moditlo Wildlife Estate forms part of the larger Blue Canyon Private Game Reserve residents can enjoy many benefits from our various agreements in place with them. Our roads are graded with material from a landowner's quarry which is a large cost saving to all residents. Our gate security is shared between Moditlo and the Blue Canyon which allows for continuity of systems at all the gates. Our fences are maintained by the same supplier which means any issues with fence around the Conservancy are quicky dealt with and they reside within the Conservancy. Our anti- poaching unit also doubles up as an armed response team for any resident that may require assistance, animal intervention or any other security issue.
As a resident you can enjoy living in some of the most pristine Veld that South Africa has to offer but with this privilege come responsibilities for home owners. Moditlo Wildlife Estate does not allow Pets and are moving towards a Pet Free estate in the near future. We have no borders to the Blue Canyon and traversing right are allowed but only on the designated roads within Moditlo and off roading and driving in the riverbeds is not allowed. A full set of rules is available below along with the schedule of fines. For those that want to see the wider Blue Canyon Conservancy the various lodges will take you into the wilderness at resident prices As a stand owner on Moditlo Wildlife Estate you have the unique chance of experiencing this iconic wildlife right literally at your doorstep.
